There was a good attendance at the meeting on Wednesday, November 6, in Church House. Jean took the office and Janet read the lesson. Following the service, Jean welcomed Police Sgt Mark Jones, the burglary reduction officer. The main theme of his talk was 'Home Security' and it was comforting to learn that we live in one of the lowest crime rate areas in the country. However members were advised not to be complacent as most burglars are opportunists and will take advantage of any chances. They were reminded that, on leaving home, they should lock windows, doors etc., not forgetting garden sheds and garages. Free home security checks are available to all senior citizens on application. Mark Jones illustrated his talk with a light-hearted video. Vena thanked Sgt. Jones for giving up his time and assured him that they would all try to be more security conscious in the future. Members are reminded that menus and monies for the Christmas lunch should be in by the next meeting, November 20, when there will be a quiz.
