At the afternoon session on Tuesday, Mrs. Ellen Jenkins took the meeting assisted by secretary Mrs. Jean John. The lesson was read by Mrs. Joy Griffiths. Members were reminded of their entry for the Pembrokeshire Horticultural Show on April 28/29 at Scolton Manor, Haverfordwest.

Volunteers are required please to 'sew on tabs' to the kneelers in church. Apologies were received from Mrs. Pat Matthews and Mrs. Alice Spiers, who recently celebrated her 97th birthday. Members were saddened to hear of the death of past member Mrs. Rene Brace.

Guest speaker was Mrs. Valerie Paley, Penally, who spoke on 'My life in a nutshell.' She was born in Pembroke and then returned to live in Portsmouth. After qualifying as a school teacher, she travelled around southern England on various posts becoming senior mistress in Preston.

In 1973 she became senior mistress and head of examinations at Greenhill School, Tenby, remaining in this post until her retirement.

She is Church Warden at Penally, Rector's Warden of the Benefice, Stewardship, Diocesan of Wales and member of the governing body.

She further went on to say how much she enjoyed being a member of the Civic Society, Arts Club, Museum and assistant enrolling member of Penally Mothers' Union.

A warm vote of thanks was given to Mrs. Paley by Mrs. Betty Gordon who marvelled at how much she gives of herself to the community and thanked her for giving her time in relating such an interesting life.

Tea hostesses were Mrs. Rene Howells, Mrs. Mary Penson, Mrs. Christine Goodridge and Mrs. Thelma Waugh.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday evening, March 6, at 7 pm, when Rev. Nigel Griffin will speak on 'A Spiritual Journey.'
