ST MARY'S MOTHERS UNION
On Tuesday afternoon, Jean, our secretary, chaired the meeting and took the short service in the absence of enrolling member, Ellen.
Mrs. Jen Richard read the collect and a passage of scripture from Corinthians. Apologies of absence were received from Mrs. Joy Griffiths and Mrs. Doreen Diment.
Members were pleased to hear that Mrs. Corps was well.
A letter of thanks was received from Mrs. Dilys Hole for the flowers she had received during her stay in hospital.
Mothers Union have agreed to pay £50 each year towards the flower fund.
The annual outing this year will take place on May 29, the destination being Bath.
Arrangements for the Christmas lunch are in hand, but no definite venue has yet been chosen.
The business section completed, Mrs. Jean John gave a warm welcome to Mrs. Doreen Hammersley whose subject was "Roses to cheer up the winter." This was a very apt title, for the wonderful array of needlework and paintings were a joy to behold on a dreary January afternoon.
Mrs. Hammersley is an extremely talented lady and this was evident in her display. Each item had a rose worked in somewhere, from the cushion cover made for her bottom drawer to the beautiful christening gown.
Each painting depicting a rose, shown by Mrs. Hammersley, had an interesting story attached to it.
Mrs. Mary Penson, in her vote of thanks complemented Mrs. Hammersley for her skill and artistry and thanked her for showing the members such a variety of beautiful work.
Refreshments were served by Beryl, Alma, Irene and Gwyneth.
Congratulations are sent to Mrs. Pat Chiplin, of Narberth on becoming the Deanery president.
The next meeting takes place on February 6 at 2.30 pm. Mr. Tipton will speak on Charles Norris and his Tenby Legacy.
