A rare sunny autumn morning and a large congregation had gathered at St. Mary's for the morning Eucharist.
The service began with the processional hymn, 'Ye Holy angels bright'.
Rev. Michael John warmly welcomed all and reminded those present that confirmation classes were now available. Please contact the Parish Office.
Rev. Michael also presented the proceeds of the Flower Festival - £1,100 to Friends of the Community. Miss Mavis Owen MBE and Mr. Roland Grigg accepted the cheque on behalf of the society. Roland thanked all those who had participated in the flower festival for their hard work and for the donation. The funds would be used to support all those in need in the area - from Llanteg to Lawrenny. Items requested by District Nurses are purchased and given to those in need.
The morning's readings were given by Mr. Wilf Hardy and Mrs. Nicole Evans. Mr. Hardy read from the Book of Genesis and Mrs. Evans from St. Paul's letter to the Romans. Rev. Michael read from the Gospel of St. Matthew.
Rev. Michael delivered a thought-provoking sermon reminding us that we should forgive. To hang on to a wrong done to us or bear a grudge is counter-productive, fills us with venom, even to the point of making us ill. He stated that to forgive was not to forget, but we should 'forgive with all our heart'.
The prayers were given by Mr. Malcolm Stacey.
The offertory hymn was 'There's a wideness in God's Mercy'.
The Eucharist was celebrated at both altars during which the choir sang Bach's 'Jesu Priceless Treasure'.
The recessional hymn was 'God is love let heav'n adore Him'.
