A crisp, autumnal morning and a large congregation had gathered at St. Mary's for the Morning Eucharist.

The service began with the processional hymn 'All people that on earth do dwell'. Rev. Dennis Baxter warmly welcomed all to the service.

Mrs. Ellen Powling read the first reading of the morning from the Book of Exodus. The Lord said to Moses at the top of Mount Sinai "Your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt have made for themselves and worshipped an image of a calf."

Mrs. Ruth Webb read the second reading from the First Book of Timothy. Christ Jesus will show mercy to sinners who act 'ignorantly in unbelief'. Rev. Dennis read the third reading from the Gospel of Luke, relating to us the parable of the lost sheep.

Rev. Dennis delivered the sermon. He reminded us that when we have choices to make, the ultimate arbiter is God. He will guide our thoughts and minds to make the right choice. The Lord sent Samuel to Jesse stating that He had chosen one of Jesse's sons to be King. Seven sons were brought before Samuel and each was rejected. Samuel asked "Have you any other son?" "Yes" replied Jesse, "David is away in the fields tending his sheep." David was brought to Samuel and was chosen by the Lord to be King.

Have faith in God to make the right choice. The offertory hymn was 'The King of love my Shepherd is'.

Mrs. Kate O'Neill offered prayers for Christian churches worldwide and that we may all work together towards the same end.

Communion was celebrated at both altars and Rev. Dennis invited all to 'Draw near'.

During the Eucharist, the choir sang 'Teach me o Lord' by Attwood.

The Sunday Club joined the congregation for the communion and the final hymn which was 'King of glory, King of peace'.
