Among those present at the January meeting of St. Mary Out Liberty Community Council were Sgt. Ian Miles and PC Mark East, of Dyfed Powys Police, who were introduced by the chairman, Clr. Ken Hall. Discussion took place on traffic matters mainly concerning the bypass. Many of these related to safety issues. Sgt. Miles agreed to discuss these with Mr. John Price at Pembrokeshire County Council, and to support the council's initiative on a number of matters. He also outlined the police strategy, and hoped they could work with the community council to provide a better environment in which to live, given that their resources were limited. Finally, Sgt. Miles offered the police's co-operation whenever it was needed. The chairman thanked the officers for their assistance and they then left the meeting. Apologies: Earlier, apologies were received from Clr. Mrs. B. Caswell and Clr. D. Williams. The clerk advised that he had seen Mrs. Caswell, who was now progressing at home. She was in very good spirits, despite her severe injuries. Everyone present was pleased to hear that she was progressing and sent her their very best wishes. Playing field: The chairman reported that the hedging plants were currently being stored at Sandy Hill Nurseries until the weather improved when it was hoped they would be planted. Tsunami Appeal: This matter was discussed. Due to the fact that all councillors had donated individually, it was agreed to take no further action. County councillor Mrs. C. Cavill's report: Tenant liaison panel - County Councillor Mrs. Cavill reported that she had been advised of a vacancy on the tenant liaison panel for the Saundersfoot/St. Mary Out LIberty/Tenby area. Any council tenant who might be interested can contact her or Hugh Colley, the tenant liaison officer, who was based at County Hall, Haverfordwest. Road from Twy Cross to Saundersfoot via Rushy Lake - Clr. Mrs. Cavill had been contacted by a resident living in St. Mary Out Liberty concerning a problem in the Saundersfoot ward, namely the very dangerous exit right towards Saundersfoot from Swallow Tree Woods. She had, of course, also written to Saundersfoot Community Council, but as she was seeing the traffic manager within the next few days, she had contacted Clr. Mrs. Hayes and it was agreed that she speak to him on the subject. Clr. Bill Cleevely was also attending this particular meeting and he had reported back to Saundersfoot Community Council. The traffic manager would be writing to the resident, but basically, as it was a private road, the county council would not be able to provide any signs; it would be up to the landowners and residents. Any signs erected, however helpful, would not carry any legal highway recognition. Coastal path at Waterwynch - Consultation on the proposed diversion was due to start later this month, and it would probably take quite a few months for all the legal procedures to be followed. Correspondence: The chairman read an invitation to attend the South East Area Liaison Forum meeting to be held at East Williamston on February 21. The council would decide who attends at their February meeting. Lists of surgeries were received from both Nick Ainger MP and Christine Gwyther AM. The clerk would display these in the noticeboard. The council was pleased to receive notice from the Pembrokeshire Community Health Council that the Sunday chemist rotas were to stay as they currently were. The chairman read a letter from Pembrokeshire County Council with reference to a seminar to be held at County Hall regarding the new licensing laws. The clerk and the chairman were to attend. Lists of premises applying to have their public entertainment licence renewed on January 31 were read. The council had no objection to the renewals within the area. Re-siting of community skips: The chairman reported that negotiations were still taking place with the VHMC on this matter. Footpath, St. Anne's Drive to bypass: The clerk was requested to write to the bridleway and footpath officer to enquire if the county council would be maintaining the surface of this footpath. Christmas arrangements 2004: The chairman reported that a number of local residents had remarked on the fact that Hean Castle Estate had donated two Christmas trees to Saundersfoot, but had charged St. Mary Out Liberty Community Council for the Christmas tree in New Hedges village. The clerk was requested to write to Mr. T. Lewis regarding the matter. Village matters: Despite several requests to Pembrokeshire County Council highways department, the hole in the carriageway outside the Mini Market had not been attended to. County councillor Mrs. Cavill agreed to make enquiries. Mrs. Hawkes reported that the surface of the matting in the play area at the village park was very slippery. The clerk agreed to report this to the county council. Several councillors expressed concern about the condition of the white lines on the carriageway through the village of New Hedges. County councillor Mrs. Cavill agreed to look into this matter. The chairman reported that Mrs. Watts had requested that they ask for additional street lighting near or outside No. 1 Hunters Park. Clr. Morris also mentioned the fact that the lighting near the entrance to St. Anne's Drive and Lake Drive was not good. The clerk agreed to write to the county council about both locations. Clr. Morris reported that the signage at the entrance to St. Anne's Drive and Lake Drive was not that informative. The signs did not indicate fully which road was which, and consequently people were getting it wrong. It was agreed to investigate and to discuss how best to resolve the matter at the next meeting. The chairman requested that the clerk include the request that the sign at Knightston Close be replaced with a new sign with the correct spelling.
