Another year and another successful St. Johns Open Art Exhibition is nearly over.
On Sunday, September 14, over 300 paintings, plus cards and prints and craft items, were submitted. Everyone then got involved in hanging the pictures - the hall was in chaos, but amazingly in one-and-a-quarter hours 90 per cent of the work was on the walls - never has this exhibition gone up so fast.
So very many people helped that day and since the artists have volunteered to steward the exhibition, Carol Brinton Thomas, the organiser of the exhibition, is full of gratitude to each and everyone of those willing and talented people.
At the time of going to press, 28, both framed and unframed, paintings had been sold and so far again this year it seems like artist Roger Hill from Newport, Pembs, is the most popular; his distinctive style is very popular.
Tenby's Doreen Hammersley is a close second as her excellent portraits of local people are being snapped up by members of their families, so if you have sat for the Monday portrait group at any time, do go along to St. Johns as your picture may be on the walls or in Doreen's rack of unframed work.
Again at time of going to press, just over £800 had been raised by the exhibition and will be equally split between the charities St. Johns Church, Cancer Research and Mission Aviation Fellowship - much of this from donations and sale of raffle tickets, because entrance to view the exhibition is free and people are happy to show their appreciation of the work by giving, even if they feel they don't want to buy.
There are lots of pictures still to view, as well as glamour photographs by Tenby Camera Club. The exhibition closes tomorrow (Saturday) at 5 pm.
