On Sunday, the choir opened the service with 'Spirit of the Living God' and Liz welcomed Lew and Margaret Day and their family for the celebration of their ruby 40th wedding anniversary. Liz welcomed also visitors from Bristol, Northampton, and Holland, and then greeted Rev. Chris Tolley. During the service, Lew and Margaret, holding hands, vowed again for their marriage, with the family and congregation supporting them. Margaret was wearing a red dress, Lew had a red buttonhole, and the flowers in the church were red roses. Mollie read from Genesis 20 v 15-28 about Jacob's wedding, and Romans 8 v 26 -28, a letter Paul wrote to the Romans. Chris mentioned that Lew and Margaret had chosen all the hymns and that it was decided to use the set readings of the day, and to their surprise, the first one was about a wedding! Life has its ups and downs, and couples have weaknesses and strengths, said Chris using some of the talk he usually gave to brides and grooms, but you two have confidence in each other to stand up in front of all your family and friends to renew your promises. It is a testimony of a marriage that works. Some people don't get married, and of those that do some founder, so it is great to celebrate a marriage which is a gift of God. Speaking about Jacob getting the wrong bride, Chris mentioned that by law he cannot marry anybody after 6 pm. This law dates back to pre-electricity and Victorian times so that during daylight witnesses could see that the correct bride and groom were marrying. The tradition of throwing back the veil before the bride says her vows, also makes sure that she is the correct bride, not like in Jacob's wedding when he was given the wrong sister. Communion followed the service, and everybody was invited to adjoin to the hall for the cutting of a beautiful cake, decorated with red and made by Ian and Sue. Everybody enjoyed their piece with a cuppa. Notices: Next Sunday, August 3, the morning service will be taken by Rev. Adrian Davies, but please note there will be no communion as we had it last Sunday instead. The craft group meets in the hall 2-4 pm on Monday. Everybody welcome to learn, bring their own, and enjoy conversation and a cuppa. On Tuesday, August 5, the Tenby Male Voice Choir perform in the church at 8 pm. The usual Wednesday coffee morning 10-12 midday is held in the hall, with hot Welsh Cakes on sale outside the front of the church. An advance notice is that the church summer fair is on Wednesday, August 13.
