The service for Remembrance Sunday was conducted by the Rev. Nanette Lewis Head and opened with the singing of 'Spirit of the living God' by the choir, accompanied by Mrs. Sheila Noot.
The congregation joined together to sing the lovely hymn 'All people that on earth do dwell.' Then Nanette quoted from John, chapter 15, 'I am the real vine and my Father is the gardener', after which all read Psalm 23. Mrs. Eluned Brown then read from Job, chapter 19, verses 23-27, and Luke, chapter 20, verses 27-38.
Nanette said that words for today were inadequate. For her, Remembrance Sunday has always been a very important day. Each of us will remember it in different ways, but it is so important that all are remembered. We give thanks for the British Legion, doctors and nurses.
Anne's lovely arrangement of poppies reminded us of Flanders Field, the poppies, as they flower each year, remind us that life goes on for ever. A wreath of poppies was then placed beneath the church memorial and Nanette read the church Roll of Honour.

So where is God? If she could answer that question, she would be very popular. Some people ask how can a loving god allow all these terrible wars to happen, but she has watched the bereaved on the news and the people of Wootton Basset lining the streets there and so many of them say that the men had only been doing their duty. People of many faiths and no faith have been bereaved and we have to make sense of it. Any visit to a First World War cemetery makes you ask, Why!
Having Remembrance Day is important, 'Lest we forget.' We all want to have a grand meeting with those we love and she believes that will happen and that love is the greatest of all God's gifts. We have to live in the faith that God is here. When the world is shattered and torn, God holds us together and that God weeps with us.
After prayers of intercession, the service ended with the singing of the hymn 'God be with you till we meet again.'
Thank you, Nanette, for a most moving and beautiful service, and thanks go to all others who took part.
This Sunday's service will be at the usual time of 11 am and will be conducted by the Rev. David Hammond.
