After the singing group, accompanied by Mrs. Sheila John, had opened worship with the Introit 'Draw near to God', Rachel read the young people's welcome. The Rev. Nanette Lewis-Head then added her own words of welcome with a reminder that it was Tony and Audrey Scullard's last Sunday at St. Johns. She wished them every blessing and joy in their new Christian community.

Psalm 145 was then read by the congregation, 'A Hymn of Praise'.

The theme for worship on Sunday was centred around the story of the feeding of the 5,000 and with this in mind, Nanette began her talk to the children by asking them if they had ever eaten 'left overs'? The feeding of the 5,000 is about sharing what is left over, for although they were initially only five loaves of barley bread and two fish, there was plenty left over for everyone. We are reminded of God's great abundant love for us. As we share in God's love, there is spiritual food and water in abundance.

After the congregation sung the hymn 'Seek ye first the kingdom of God', the young people left for their own classes.

Mrs. Margaret Day read from 2 Kings, chapter 4, verses 42-44, and John, chapter 6, verses 1-21, 'Jesus feeds a great crowd'. In response to the Gospel readings, the hymn 'I need thee every hour', was sung.

"And so to share and explore the readings together," Nanette began her address, "in both readings the crowds are fed, but there is much more to the stories. As the crowds were fed so too our spiritual and emotional resources are fed. Too little is more than enough, for in God's grace there is abundance." This is the wonderful message to share. Jesus said: "Feed my people", we are called, we are not left alone. Miracles all have beginnings and all these beginnings are with us. So let us praise God who feeds us spiritually and multiplies that which he gives us day by day.

To conclude worship, the grace was shared and the singing group sang the joyous hymn, 'I'll go in the strength of the Lord'.

Thank you Nanette for sharing again and inspiring us to go forward in faith.

This Sunday, worship at 11 am will again be led by the Rev. Nanette Lewis-Head and will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion. There will be a warm welcome for everyone.

On Wednesday, August 5, the weekly coffee morning will be in aid of the Avenue Centre. In addition to coffee being served, there will be several stalls, a raffle and of course St. Johns Welsh cake ladies will be on duty. Please come along and give them your support.
