The Rev. Norman Gilbert, from Cosheston, was the visiting minister on Sunday; it was good to welcome him back again.

Worship was opened by the choir singing, 'Spirit of the Living God', led by Mrs. Melanie Walker and accompanied by Mrs. Sheila Noot. William Dunlop read the young people's welcome, "We gather in God's presence feeling enthusiasm and joy. O come let us give thanks to the Lord."

The hymn 'God is my strength and refuge', which is based on Psalm 46, was used for the congregational reading.

The Rev. Norman Gilbert then talked to the children about forgiveness, taking his lead from the parable of 'The Unforgiving Servant' as told by Jesus. "Lord, if my brother keeps on sinning against me, how many times do I have to forgive him, seven times?" asked Peter. "No not seven times," answered Jesus, "but seventy times seven." Similarly, it is for us to forgive those that have sinned against us.

Taking this message with them, the young people then left for their own worship to continue working on their collage, 'Fruits of the Spirit', in preparation for the Harvest Festival this Sunday.

Mrs. Bron. Hurlow read from Luke, chapter 16, verses 19-31, 'The Rich man and Lazarus', as an introduction to the Rev. Normal Gilbert's address.

The Rev. Gilbert had previously given this address while working in Africa on the Sudan/Kenya border. His work there had involved a time with a native tribe which was accustomed to extreme hardship; for most of the time they had little to do but just sit in a totally impoverished environment. They knew what it was like to be without, while the highlight of their week was to dress up on a Sunday for worship.

The story of Lazarus, as told by Jesus, tells us of the rich man who became poor and the poor man who became rich. What we have in this life is not vitally important. By faith in Christ there is hope of great riches to come, through him we will be rich in the life we have in God.

In response, the hymn 'There's a light upon the mountain' was sung and to conclude worship the choir sang the blessing 'May the Lord bless you and keep you'.

Thanks go to the Rev. Norman Gilbert and all those who contributed to worship.

This Sunday, worship will be at 11 am and will be led by the Rev. Nanette Lewis-Head. The morning will include the Harvest Festival and a faith lunch, to which all are welcome.

From 12.30 - 3 pm, 'The Cheese and Chocolate Club' meet again - all young people over the age of 10 are welcome. The group will meet in the large schoolroom of the church. If you are at a loose end, do come along and join in the fun. Lunch is provided.
