An introit by the singing group, with Mrs. Pat Stubbs as organist, began worship on Sunday. Lara Thomas read the opening sentences and she was thanked by Mr. Tony Scullard, church secretary, who also welcomed Rev. Ivor Williams, of Broadhaven, who was leading worship. In his response, Ivor recalled with pleasure his time spent at St. Johns some 25 years ago before his call to ministry. Psalm 8, which begins 'O Lord our governor how glorious is your name in all the earth', was read by the congregation, before they shared birthday greetings with six-year-old Dylan. Dylan, with Lara and Rachel, helped to illustrate the children's address. He spoke of how donkeys featured in the story of Jesus; one carried Mary to Bethlehem, another Jesus on Psalm Sunday. The two girls played the part of the donkey, Dylan Jesus. Ivor explained how Jesus needed the donkey, because as he rode into Jerusalem on it, the people could see the Old Testament prophecy fulfilled, 'Behold your King comes riding on a donkey'. Mrs. Margaret Day read from Paul's letters to the Romans and Ivor took words from Chapter 12 as the basis for his sermon, which was a further exploration of the theme begun with the children. Ivor used personal illustrations as well as the words of Paul on what people's response to the gospel should be. Following prayers of intercession, the final hymn, 'All for Jesus', was a summary of what the theme had been. Thanks go to Ivor and all who took part in worship. This Sunday, all are welcome at 11 am, when St. Johns own minister, Rev. Nanette Lewis Head, will be leading worship.
