After the introit sung by the choir, accompanied by Alan Adams playing the organ, words of welcome were read by Mollie. She in turn was welcomed back by the minister, Rev. Nanette Lewis Head, after her illness. The opening hymn was sung by the congregation and Nanette then talked to the young people about the night sky. Had any of them seen a shooting star? In Jesus' time, these were considered signs of great happenings. We are now nearly into Advent and they would have believed that something momentous was to happen when they saw the great star in the sky. After the young people had left for their own worship, Mrs. Eluned Brown read from St. Luke's Gospel Ch. 21 verses 5-19 and Thessalonians 2 Ch. 3 verses 6-13. In her address, Nanette carried on the theme of 'signs'. She said that an asteroid passing close to the earth in biblical times would have been looked at as a great sign. In the reading, Jesus was warning his followers of the destruction of the temple, which signified a thousand years of God's dealing with the Jews. Jesus knew that he would be marked out as the one who had caused the troubles, and his followers in their turn. We all know that we cannot just stand around, but must do something to spread the word of the gospel. We must not lose our direction in following Christ. Do not be afraid. This is your time to share the faith. After the last hymn, the blessing was said to each other and the choir sang the Benediction. Thanks go to Nanette and all others who took part in the service. This Sunday's worship will be at 11 am and will be led by Mrs. Audrey Scullard. All welcome.
