It was good to have Rev. Nanette Lewis Head leading worship on Sunday, following her short holiday. This was a truly inspirational celebration of Harvest Thanksgiving and the 20th anniversary of the inauguration of St. Johns when the Methodist and United Reformed churches in Tenby became one. One of the strengths of the church is the many gifts of its people and this was amply displayed in this time of worship. The choir, with Mrs. Pat Stubbs as organist, both opened and close worship and also contributed a beautiful rendition of 'Look at the world'. Words of welcome were read by Thomas Dunlop. Two more of the young people, Rachel Bonser on clarinet and Lara Thomas on violin, with Mrs. Mollie Neate as pianist, accompanied hymns and played at the close of worship. The congregational reading was 'A song of creation' which begins 'Bless the Lord all created things,' and Mrs. Sue Powell read from Deuteronomy 26 1-11 'Harvest Offerings' and Ephesians 3 14-21 'The Love of Christ'. Mrs. Ann Maggs gave a short talk entitled 'Roots' in which, in her own inimitable way, she outlined the background to how the Methodist and the URC churches in Tenby had come together in St. Johns. In her talk to the young people, Nanette had spoken about their great responsibility in today's world and challenged them 'What are you going to do as followers of Christ to care for the world?'. In her sermon. Nanette further developed the two themes for worship drawing from the Bible passages. St. Paul wrote 'Let your roots go deep down to your foundation in love'. This is what our forefathers did and she concluded 'Let us never be short-sighted about what God can do through us'. Thank you Nanette and those who with her shared their gifts to enrich this worship, the choir, Pat, Thomas, Rachel, Lara, Mollie, Ann, those who had arranged the beautiful harvest and floral displays, not forgetting the ladies behind the scenes who had prepared the faith lunch which followed worship. This Sunday at 11 am, Nanette will again lead worship which include a celebration of Holy Communion. All are welcome.
