Worship on Sunday began with the introit sung by the choir, 'Spirit of the living God', with Mr. Alan Adams as organist. Rev. Nanette Lewis Head thanked Rachel and Dylan for reading the words of welcome. Psalm 47, beginning 'O clap your hands all you people and cry aloud to God with joy', was read by the congregation. Nanette spoke to the young people about the value which we put on a life, and referred to a sign at the local train station, which troubled her childhood 'Children £1'. How much are we worth? God's love is given to all to be shared. Two passages of scripture through which the service's theme, 'The meaning of life', was explored were read by Mr. Lew Day. Ecclesiastes 3, 'A time for everything', and Luke 12 v.13-21, 'The parable of the rich fool.' In her sermon, Nanette began by asking the question 'What is the source of real human happiness?' Among the aims are riches and success and in pursuit of these many suffer from anxiety and stress. Jesus's teaching goes to the heart of what we are. He tells us to stop worrying, but not to stop caring. Living with Christ as mentor and Saviour means a new way of life, putting God and God's values at the centre. Words used by Nanette as we prepared to share in communion were 'As we come to the table we are all rich beyond words because our God in Jesus loves us'. Thank you, Nanette, and all who with her enriched the worship, Rachel, Dylan, Mr. Lew Day, Mr. Alan Adams and the choir. Nanette will again lead worship this Sunday at 11 am. All are welcome.
