Worship on Sunday was led by Rev. Nanette Lewis Head. The choir, with Mrs. Sheila Noot as organist, sang the introit 'Draw near to God'. The welcome was read by Lara. Following introductory prayers, Psalm 27, 'The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom then shall I fear', was read by the congregation. Mrs. Margaret Day read two further passages of scripture from the New Testament: Luke 10, 'Jesus rejoices', and 'The Parable of the Good Samaritan' from Paul's letter to the Colossians, chapter one. In her talk to the young people, Nanette took the story of the Good Samaritan and dwelt briefly on how each person in the story would have felt. The robbers were anxious to get away, the injured man fearful, the Levite afraid of breaking the law by touching the man and the Samaritan, who had no time to think, but acted. Jesus would have wanted those who were listening to him to be a good friend. Nanette continued to expand on this theme in her sermon and began with the question 'How should we live?' She answered how often answers are given to this question in our 'instant' world and then outlined four main points based upon the story and its context. Firstly that we should be living in God's way, experiencing the freedom of faith that leads to fulfilment. Secondly, we should continue to build a relationship with God as expressed in the reading from Colossians. Thirdly, if we live in God's love, we shall have to wrestle with the choices of life and finally have to make a positive decision in our concerns for those in need. Closing words were that the story issued a challenge to us all to spread God's love to the whole world. Thank you, Nanette, for the interpretation of the scripture for today's world; also to Lara, Mrs. Margaret Day, Mrs. Sheila Noot and the singing group. Worship this Sunday at 11 am will be led by Mr. and Mrs. Peter Neate and the worship group. All are welcome.
