Worship on Sunday began with an introit sung by the choir, with Mrs. Sheila John as organist. The Rev. Nanette Lewis Head welcomed everyone. Opening prayers were followed by the congregational reading of Psalm 33 which began 'Rejoice in the Lord all you righteous'. Birthday greetings were shared with Daniel, five- years-old, and Donald nine. Nanette's young peoples talk was in preparation for a further exploration both in junior church and adult worship. She spoke about our need for each other and how our lives are built on the love of Jesus and used the illustration of the keystone of a bridge, which is the top and centre. Jesus is the keystone of our lives. Connor Bridge who read the two passages of scripture from 1 Kings 17 'Elijah and the widow in Zarephath' and Luke 7 'Jesus raises a widows son', was thanked by Nanette. The two stories from these readings were explored in Nanette's sermon and she began by asking how relevant they are to our lives today. Both stories tell of the involvement of God 'God looked favourably upon his people'. He used the prophet Elijah and Jesus, his son to be his instruments. The widows and children of the stories represented the most neglected members of their society. God works today through those who seek out and help the most marginalised of our society. God is glorified through these actions. In the lives that we touch are we sharing God's love? Let us support and encourage one another. Before prayers of intercession, Nanette said that praying in this way follows the theme of the day's worship. She shared the news that among those on the prayer list were Vi Cousins, who is very very ill, her husband John and her family. The final hymn was Charles Wesley's 'And can it be ?' Thank you Nanette once again for an inspired leading of worship. Thank you also to the choir, Sheila and Connor. This Sunday's worship at 10.30 am which will be led by the members, is a service for Father's Day and the theme is 'The journey of faith'. All are welcome.
