Worship on Sunday, August 27, was led by Rev. Nanette Lewis Head who thanked Connor Bridge for reading the welcome. 'Give thanks with a grateful heart,' were the opening words of the first prayer. Prayer was the theme for worship and in a short talk to the young people, Nanette used a candle flame to illustrate that just as we depend upon air to live, so a candle flame dies if it has no air. Prayer is as necessary to us as the air we breathe. Our faith assures us that God listens to every word. Miss Barbara Stredder read from Joshua 24, 'Joshua speaks to the people of Shechem' and St. Johns Gospel Six, 'The words of eternal life.' Nanette said that these readings challenge us to follow the Lord. In her sermon, the theme of prayer was developed through a further study from Ephesians. In chapter six, Paul writes about Christians wearing the whole armour of God and urges that they should 'Pray, asking for God's help on every occasion, as the spirit leads.' In conclusion, Nanette said that prayer can be likened to a crystal catching the light, and is God's gift to us. Thank you Nanette for reminding us that we should be faithful in prayer. Thank you also to Barbara, Connor, the choir and Mrs. Sheila Noot as organist. Before prayers of intercession, news of the church family was that Mrs. Shirley Draper is making a good recovery in hospital following her operation and Mrs. Margaret Walker sent her thanks for the support which she is receiving during her illness. Nanette will again lead worship this Sunday at 10.30 am when there will be a baptism and celebration of Holy Communion. All are welcome.
