After the introit sung by the choir, the call to worship was read by Rachael of the Junior Church. Secretary, Tony Scullard, then welcomed Mr. Richard Laws, who was to lead the morning's service. Following the singing of the hymn, 'Ye servants of God', Mr. Laws produced a 'bar code' and explained to the children the value of it to the retailer and also reminded them that everyone carried their own 'bar code' on their fingertips. Every fingerprint is different, as all are individuals in the sight of God. Before the disciples believed in the resurrection, they needed to see the marks on Jesus's hands and feet and in Thomas's case, even to touch them to allay his doubts. They are in effect Jesus's 'bar code'. Mrs. Bron Hurlow then read from 'The first letter from John', chapter 1-2 verse 2, and John, chapter 20, verses 19-31. Mr. Laws's talk was based on verses 28 and 31 of the reading from John. He said that most of the people of His days rejected Him because He was not what they expected or wanted. They thought that He had come to deliver them from the Romans. Although He was not like Moses or David, he appeared to have all the right answers. His followers were afraid, which was why they were meeting in a locked room when He appeared to them. Thomas, the doubter, needed to see Him and feel His wounds, but then said: 'My Lord and my God'. Jesus's reply was that blessed were those who believed without seeing. The service ended with the singing of the hymn, 'O Jesus I have promised to serve thee to the end'. Many thanks go to Mr. Laws, for leading in worship, to Alan on the organ, Bron and the choir. Congratulations to Gwenith James who was 98 on Wednesday. This Sunday's service will be at 10.30 am and will be conducted by the Rev. Lewis Head.
