Last Sunday, during the Eucharist service, we celebrated the Conversion of Paul the Apostle.

The readings were from Jeremiah 1, 4-10, Acts 9, 1-22, and the Holy Gospel from St. Matthew, Ch 19, 22-30.

During the communion, the choir sang the beautiful 'Gladness, Sadness, Joy and Sorrow' by Edward Dowell.

Happily the vicar, the Rev. Victor Millgate, has recovered his voice and was able to deliver his sermon. He drew from the well known story of Saul's conversion to Paul the Apostle, who both through his preaching and letters had been responsible for bringing many to Christ.

The vicar said in the very difficult times many are now experiencing, he hoped people would come to realise that the 'materialistic', 'must have', consumer-orientated lives many lead would have to change.

We cannot manage without God, despite what we achieve by our own merit. Christ came to change this situation and we must hope and pray that those who are suffering hardship rebuild their lives on the rock of Christ.

Fair Trade goods were on sale as usual after the service. This week our service is Evensong at 6 pm - anyone requiring a lift to the service, please ring either (01834) 871604 or 871591.
