The Holy Eucharist service last Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, was conducted by the vicar, the Rev. Victor Millgate. The readings were from Acts 2: 1-21 (an account of the day of Pentecost) and 1 Corinthians 12, 3-13. The Holy Gospel was from St. John 20: 19-23 (Jesus appears to his disciples). In his sermon, the vicar spoke of the celebration of Pentecost, of how Christ gave the gift of the Holy Spirit to his disciples and of how we too receive this gift through our belief and faith in Christ. Jesus has taught us the way we should live and we are called by God to be fellow workers in spreading and sharing his ways with the world. The gift of the Holy Spirit comes with responsibilities, we should be open to this, that the world may see Christ in us in whatever we do in our lives. His power is with us, we pray for others to change, so all may share in God's world, free from strife, war, inhumanities and troubles. Fair Trade goods were available to purchase after the service. We were reminded that 'Fair Trade' is part of our Christian outreach, and our purchases really do help those least fortunate to help themselves. The service this Sunday, May 18, is Holy Eucharist at 11.15 am. There is now very good disabled access plus easy access and for those of us who may be a little unsteady using steps. We also have a 'refurbished' children's area for the young ones. A very warm welcome is extended to all in the parish and to visitors on holiday. Should you require a lift to any of our services at St. James, please ring (01834) 871604 or 871591 and this will be arranged.
