The Eucharist service on Sunday was celebrated by the vicar, the Rev. Victor Millgate, who members were pleased to see in improving health. The vicar thanked all those for the prayers, good wishes and gifts received whilst unwell. The readings for the day, Septuagesima Sunday, were from Genesis 2 v4-8 and Revelation 21 v2-17 and the Gospel was from John 5 v1-20. In his sermon, the vicar said at this time in the church year, we look back to Christmas and the wonderful gift of Jesus, God's Son and forwards through lent (only three weeks away) to Good Friday and Easter. It is a time to think about the wonderful things God has done for us. Not only did he create the beautiful world we live in, but also gave us his Son and through his life, work, teachings and death of Jesus Christ, we who follow him and his path have the choice of eternal life. We should pray to gain full sense of this wonder, that we may be charged, reflect in his glory in the wonder we feel and the love of God. After the service, there was an opportunity to purchase Fairtrade goods from Judith Millgate. The service this Sunday, February 19, is Family Communion at 11.15 am.
