It proved to be a fun night for St Issell’s WI ladies at their May meeting as they celebrated the VE Day 80th anniversary.
Following the singing of Jerusalem, President, Diane Rigden, welcomed everyone with a special welcome to Margaret Kaye paying us a visit after many years, and as it was her birthday that day needless to say Happy birthday was sung.
Jeanette John was thanked for the flowers for the top table, and other birthday wishes for May went to Joy Nixon, Bee Pool, Mary Williams, Sheila spiller and Val John. Secretary and BOT Member, Pam Roberts, then presented Mary Howells with a certificate for having top marks in the cookery section of the rosebowl competition. Nominations for Board of Trustees were made, and names taken of those wishing to attend the Spring council meeting on May 20.
Members were then asked to indicate the pudding they would be making for the proposed Pudding and prosecco evening on 18 June, and Val read an email from Jacqui Cowgill thanking ladies for her get-well card following her recent operation.

There being nothing further needing discussion ladies enjoyed a delicious 40’s style meal, cornbeef pie and spam fritters with salad, followed by appropriate puddings. Anne Leech had organized lots of fun games which everyone could enjoy, resulting in much laughter and terminating in a paper plane fly past to the Dambusters tune, which was won by Joy Nixon whose plane flew the furthest. Ladies had all dressed in red, white and blue, but the star of the evening was Joyce Ludlow.
The competition for something from the forties was won by Jean Roberts, and the lucky raffle winners were Bee Poole and Pam Roberts, both prizes again being forties related. Mary Howells was thanked for making the cornbeed pie and spam fritters, and Anne Leech for providing so many different games.
Shirley Cunningham also added her thanks for a most enjoyable evening which was rounded off by the singing of God Save The King.
