Among matters discussed at a recent meeting of St. Florence Community Council were the following: Three members of the public voiced their concerns over the height and spread of several bushes between the Parsonage and Parklands. Councillors present at the meeting felt it necessary to arrange a site visit to look at the bushes/shrubs and reach a conclusion. There was also a strip of land owned by a third party which required attention. The clerk was to contact County Clr. P. Kidney and ask that this be addressed. A third resident was interested in purchasing the land directly behind the flats and this item would be an agenda item at next month's meeting. It was brought to councillors' attention that a youngster playing football on the Village Hall Field sustained a nasty gash to his leg after climbing over the wooden post and rail fencing. This occurred from an advertising board being removed, but the screw holding same being left in situ. The caretaker of the Village Hall had already walked the perimeter of the fence and removed any remaining nails/screws that may be dangerous. Complaints had been received by the football club with regards to the removal of the football goalposts after each match. These were taken down to stop the pitch getting spoilt and stored on the field. However, local children were trying to lift these back into position which was causing a safety hazard. As the posts were property of the football club, they would now be stored in the garage. Permanent goalposts for local use were still available at the top end of the field. The clerk had been asked to contact The Parsonage Farm Inn and ask that they remove the brambles growing in the wall at the end of the beer garden. A list of councillor names and contact information was to be displayed on the community council noticeboard.

Matters Arising

Fence incident: The chairperson took the decision to change the order of the agenda to discuss the fence incident in more detail. Councillors agreed that the community council were not responsible for the signs, only the fence. It was proposed by Clr. Eardley that the sponsors should keep these well-maintained and any that were no longer required should be removed safely. The caretaker would also be asked to check the fence on a regular basis and address any dangerous nails/screws. He would also remove any signs that he deemed dangerous. The clerk would then contact the sponsors of the signs for them to be made safe. Seconded Clr. D. Evans. All in favour. Members of the public were asked if they were satisfied with the action taken. No comments were received. A letter would be forwarded to the owners of the signs informing them of the accident. Replacement flooring: It was proposed by Clr. J. Evans that the colour warm oak slip resistant flooring be chosen for the hall. Seconded Clr. D. Evans. All in favour. The clerk would contact KO Carpets and ask that this be installed as soon as possible. A letter would be forwarded to the Village Association asking for funding towards the replacement flooring. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts from the Sun Inn would also be asked if they would consider putting the money they donated for a new cooker towards the replacement flooring. Restoration of War Memorial: Paperwork had been received for the grant application for War Memorials in Wales. The supporting documentation needed was very complex and included original design drawings, details of the name of the architect or designer, sculptor and builder of the memorial and its date of constructions and dedication. This information would need to be sought before the application could be submitted.

Village and Village Hall Matters

PAT testing: All electrical equipment within the hall would be checked and subsequently PAT tested as required. The clerk would contact a qualified electrician to carry out same. Proposed Clr. Eardley, seconded Clr. J. Evans, all in favour. County Councillor's Report

Although Clr. Kidney was unable to attend the meeting, he advised the clerk that he had spoken with the users of the chapel graveyard and seen evidence that they now owned this land and that it was included on their lease.

Items Submitted by Councillors

Trees overhanging 1 Parsons Green: Smart Gardens had quoted £75 to remove this overhang and would be asked to proceed. Clr. D. Evans asked if County Clr. Kidney could investigate who should be maintaining the small piece of grassland opposite 23 Parklands and also the larger area adjacent to 19 Parklands.
