The Freshwater Inn in Freshwater East hosted an unusual birthday party on St. David's Day.

The surprise party was for four local residents who were all born on March 1 and who live within a stone's throw of each other.

With dates of birth ranging from 1923 to 1972, Elizabeth, Phili, Vicky and Bill were celebrating a 40-plus birthday, a 60th birthday, a 75th birthday and a 90th birthday between them.

Their friends and family surprised them with gifts of balloons, bouquets of flowers, personalised birthday cards and a beautiful (and delicious) birthday cake.

The cake, made and decorated by Jenny Griffiths, illustrated the hobbies of the birthday girls and boy, which included short mat bowls, gardening, craftwork and flower and fungi spotting.

Carol and Richard provided a generous buffet for the 45 or so guests and a very cheerful evening was enjoyed by all.
