As part of the next stage developments taking place across the West Wales mainline, St Clears is set to be next in line to receive an upgraded train station.

The improvement to the station comes after months of campaigning from local politicians Simon Hart MP and Samuel Kurtz MS.

Transport for Wales have announced that the groundwork and surveying will be carried out between February 5 and the end of March, with work taking place during the day and night to avoid disruption to rail passengers.

Welcoming the announcement, MP Simon Hart said: “This has been a long haul for St Clears and so it is really exciting to see work finally starting. Exciting stuff!

“This is happening thanks to a UK Government grant of nearly £5 million and it will be of huge benefit to the whole area.

“There may be some disruption and noise during this period - residents should have received a letter with further details, along with contact information should anyone have any queries,” he continued.

Mr. Kurtz added: “This is well-overdue and shows what can be achieved when all levels of government work together.

“Whilst the timescales are ambitious, it’s fabulous to see things are finally underway. Let’s now hope Welsh Government support St Clears Station with quality trains and a suitable timetable.”
