The environment is one of the Lions’ Clubs International Centennial Projects and Tenby and District Lions are very keen to play an active part in this project.
They have already sponsored the flower beds on The Green in Tenby and have had a seat carved from Western Cedar and sited on Caldey Island.
They are now making sure that the red squirrels which have been introduced on the island about a year ago have enough food.
Several trees have been planted for the squirrels but as these take time to mature there may not be enough food when the young are born. Eight kittens have already been born this year.
The Tenby and District Lions have donated £250 to provide enough nuts for the young squirrels for the next 12 months.
This food will be supplied by Mrs. Diane Richards who runs the Pet Shop in Tenby Market.
Her husband, Stanley is responsible for the maintenance on the Island.
The Estate Manager, Ben Childs, is very grateful for this donation and all the support that Tenby and District Lions give to help improve the environment on Caldey Island.
