Help is at hand to create a glorious summer garden this year, at a special gardening-themed Haverfordwest Farmers' Market today (Friday). Market stall holders will be selling a huge choice of plants, herbs and vegetable at the 'planting for spring' promotion - to ensure colour in your garden throughout the summer and beyond. Gardening expert Ken Durham will be giving advice on creating gorgeous hanging baskets, patio pots, children's gardens and borders. You can find out which plants attract butterflies and insects, which give off a beautiful scent on a sultry summer evening, and how to control unwanted pests. There'll be advice on how to compost from the Strategic Recycling Scheme, who will also have tips on how best to use your compost within your garden. "You can also buy plenty of wonderful fresh local food to help keep up your stamina for all that gardening!" said Kate Morgan, Pembrokeshire County Council food officer and market manager. "Among the wide range of produce are Pembrokeshire new potatoes, new season strawberries, fresh spring asparagus and locally- caught shellfish."
