Spring has sprung in Manorbier VCP School and the children have been busy indeed. The timing of the half-term holiday meant that St. David's Day had to be postponed, but that didn't stop the children putting on a wonderful St. David's Day celebration the week after school returned and singing Calon Lan, amongst other favourites, with great gusto and panache.

The Dylan Thomas Shed has visited Manorbier School. This wonderful resource saw a replica of Dylan Thomas's writing shed coming to the school grounds. The author Emily Hinshelwood carried out workshops with the children and the children got a chance to visit the shed afterwards. The school shared the experience, welcoming in children from St. Florence and Greenhill. All the children enjoyed collaborating on this wonderful experience.

A visit from Lee Simmonds from the fire service saw the children learning vital safety information in a fun and informative way. The staff would like to thank the fire service for these essential and fun visits.

The school also got sporty for Sport Relief. Children and staff dressed up in sports gear and raised funds for this great day by having a sponsored silence which lasted for most until lunchtime. Children also had an unhealthy donut sale, but then burnt off all the extra sugar with a sponsored skip. Thankfully, the sun shone for the afternoon and the rains held off long enough for all the children to get thoroughly exhausted and raise an extremely healthy amount for the charity Sport Relief.

There was musical success, meanwhile, when several juniors represented the school at the Valero Primary Schools Music Festival. All played well in their various classes, including the Manorbier Jazz Ensemble giving a superb performance in the ensemble competition, but congratulations go to Imogen Stace-Smith for winning the grade two trumpet and cornet class. Well done to her and all those who took part and gave up their day off to represent their school.
