Community spirit overcame the challenge of a freezing easterly wind over the weekend as residents from Hermon gave the village a spring clean.

Villagers, young and old came together to take part in the ‘Spring Clean Cymru’ event which is backed by Keep Britain Tidy.

Pembrokeshire County Council supported the clean-up by providing equipment such as bags, gloves, and litter-picking tools, and arranged the collection of the bags once the pick had finished.

Over 18 bags of litter were collected from the surrounding roads and play area of the community centre and the event was such a success, the community is hoping to raise funds to purchase permanent equipment that people can use when out walking on a day to day basis.

“It would be something similar to the two minute beach clean boards that we have helped install around our coastline,” said cabinet member for the environment and Welsh language Clr. Cris Tomos who took part in the clean-up

“The beach boards are very well used and it’s hoped a similar scheme in the village could be just as successful in keeping the countryside clean.

“It also sends out a strong message to those who drop the litter that there is growing movement of people who find littering unacceptable and that can only be a good thing.”
