YOUNG people will be taking to the red carpet this weekend for the first annual Youth Films Oscar night. Held at the Picton Centre in Haverfordwest, the Oscars-style event will showcase short films made by youth groups across the county. Dozens of young film-makers are expected to turn up for the evening to celebrate their creativity. Organised by Damien Golden and Nick Hudd, of Pembrokeshire County Council's youth service, the event will give youngsters an opportunity to display their work to a wider audience, as well as view productions made by others. A special panel of their peers will judge the films with the winners announced on the night. Clr. Islwyn Howells, cabinet member for children and young people, said film was a major art form, which inspired a great deal of creativity among young people. "We hope this event will be the first of many to encourage young filmmakers to develop their talent," he said. The 'Oscar' night premiere will be held tomorrow (Saturday).
