The county's sporting achievements will be celebrated at the Sport Pembrokeshire Awards later this year.
The award ceremony in November will acknowledge the efforts of sportsmen and women throughout the county, as well as the volunteers and sponsors that keep grass roots sport growing.
Special awards will also be made to honour the sporting achievement of youngsters. Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for sport and leisure said the high profile award ceremony aimed to celebrate the hard work and effort that went into grass roots sport in the county.
"This year in particular has been a very rewarding year in Pembrokeshire across a wide range of sports," he said. "These awards will honour those that make our sporting success happen."
Sport Pembrokeshire manager John Deason said the awards were particularly aimed at celebrating the achievements and coaching of youngsters. "Junior sport is a wonderful outlet for fun and health. The sporting skills and attitudes learnt whilst young are there for life," he said.
Awards will be made in the following categories: Coach of the Year; Female Sporting Achievement of the Year; Male Sporting Achievement of the Year; Boys (Under 16) Sporting Achievement of the Year; Girls (Under 16) Sporting Achievement of the Year; Disability Sport Award; Unsung Hero of the Year; School/Club Partnership of the Year; Club Organiser of the Year.
A panel of representatives from Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - the Western Telegraph and Pembrokeshire Sports Development council will decide the three finalists and the eventual winners in each category.
Winners and finalists will be announced at the award ceremony at Folly Farm on November 16 to which all nominees and their friends/ family will be invited.
The awards will also mark the start of Pembrokeshire's Olympic Legacy Partnership, which will seek ways of maximising benefits to grass roots sport in our County, from the inspiration of the forthcoming 2008 - 2012 (UK based) Olympiad.
