On Monday, October 11, the Children's University was officially launched in West Wales, with its main aim to recognise the contribution of pupils to their learning over and above the usual school curriculum. Credits are earned through participation in out-of-school activities, clubs and community ventures. Saundersfoot pupils, along with others from the Tenby area, were involved in a pilot project, gaining credits towards a certificate in either the First College for pupils five to eight years or Children's University for pupils aged nine to 13. The Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning, Jane Davidson, presented certificates to 25 pupils, 24 of whom were pupils at Saundersfoot School! In addition, the school quartet and string trio were invited to perform at the opening ceremony, along with two individual performers from the school. Lily Whitehurst, Pembrokeshire Young Musician 2004, played a violin solo, while Beth Williams recited the piece that gained her second place in the Urdd National Eisteddfod. First College bronze award (50 - 100 credits): Jodie Dickinson, Courtney Harris, Jodie Jenkins, Ryan Price, Tom Prestwich, Kate Williams, Lauren Williams, Matthew Williams.
