Two friends and well-known local sportsmen are currently running across the remotest place in America.

Matthew Evans and Yori Lewis are in Arizona where they are bidding to conquer one of the toughest endurance challenges in the world.

They are running 170 miles in six stages through the Utah and Arizona desert (with temperatures reaching 47 degrees celsius and dropping well below minus in the night) entirely self-supported - and their rucksacks are mighty heavy!

Yes they’re bonkers and completely crazy, but they’re doing all of this for an amazing cause; to raise money for CALM charity (Campaigning Against Living Miserably) to help tackle male depression and suicide, which is the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK and the Captain Cymru Foundation, which raises critical funds for a number of charities, inlcuding thyroid cancer and a school which it built in Nairobi.

The Grand to Grand Ultra is taking place over a world class course that has been experienced by few brave adventurers.

“We have zero contact with them apart from following the online results,” said Yori’s daughter Molly.

“Both dad and Matt are doing amazing well so far though and it looks like the training, grit, determination and dedication they’ve put into it is paying off.”
