Spooks and sparkles saw Saundersfoot all fired up for a fang-tastic time during its Big Bang Weekend.

The event combined the fun and festivities of Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night and saw large crowds in the village throughout the weekend to enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Shops and businesses entered into the spirit of the occasion by decorating their windows and welcoming contenders in the Spooky Bat Trail, and 250 excited youngsters took part in the Friday evening Trick or Treat trail and disco to raise funds for the village youth club and playgroup.

A pumpkin carving competition, a funfair on the harbour car park and a dazzling display of pyrotechnics in ideal conditions on Saturday night all added up to a memorable weekend.

The event was organised by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, whose chairman, Phil Odley, said: “The fireworks were a brilliant end to an amazing weekend. There was a lovely atmosphere in the village and everyone is delighted with the boost to trade.”

There were 150 entrants in the Spooky Bat Trail, with a draw for the winners resulting in Ryan Smith, of Broadmoor, and Seren Hopkins, of Pontypridd, winning a cuddly bat goody bag.

The pumpkin competition was judged by Saundersfoot’s county councillor and community council chairman, Clr. Phil Baker, and the winners were: Under seven, Olivia Jones, aged three; Seven-11, Evie Barnes-Judd, aged nine; Over 12, Lucy Lock, aged 12. Rhys Wheeler, aged 12, was awarded the special Saundersfoot community council prize and the overall winner was Mercedes Ancel, aged 15.
