Spending a penny in Tenby could help the town’s floral displays blossom.
Correspondence from Pembrokeshire County Council which came before members of Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Tuesday night, informed councillors that revenue from the charging mechanisms installed at public conveniences across the resort could be used to fund a specified project for the town.
“We are working in partnership with Danfo and Keep Wales Tidy to release a small amount of revenue from these toilets to fund community environmental enhancement projects,” wrote PCC’s strategic project officer, Katie Daly.
“We have not set a strict criteria for these projects, only that they must enhance the area in an environmentally friendly way,” she added.
Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, told her colleagues that the town council would happily accept any cash injection from the toilet charges.
“We’d be delighted to receive a few bob, and I’d propose putting the funds towards the town’s gardens, which would be classed as an environmental project. We do help ‘Keep Wales Tidy’, but we do everything ourselves.
The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, also chairman of Tenby in Bloom, said that there was indeed a lot of work and cost that went towards retaining the visual impact in the town through its floral displays.
“The town council and Tenby in Bloom has to fund the floral displays, shrubs, and even pay for the watering of the flowers and plants. There are so many unseen costs that we have to meet for the upkeep, so any extra funding like this could be very important for the town,” she remarked.
