The Cleddau Bridge Hotel, Pembroke Dock, was the venue for this year's Pembrokeshire Autograss Club (PAC) annual dinner and trophy presentation. Members, friends and guests of PAC enjoyed a four-course meal prior to the presentation of a magnificent array of silverware, including PAC class and open cups, along with annual perpetual trophies. As a token of the PAC club, all junior competitors - 26 in total - received a trophy for racing during the 2004 season. The Pembroke Autograss Club, who hold their local race meetings at Lamphey by kind permission of brothers Johnathan and David Harries, remains one of the top autograss clubs in Britain with over 150 members to date. PAC has once again had an excellent 2004 season, with 23 drivers competing in the national championships held at Stroud, near Gloucester. All drivers obtained great heat results, especially Mathew Morris, PAC5, who just missed out on getting into the Class 1 final. He had to have a run-off due to a mechanical problem in his second heat, but did very well in his other two heats in order to get into the 10-car final. Derrick Brown, PAC43, drove superbly during the national championships coming home in fourth place out of 40 competitors in Class 10, which is the largest of the open-wheel special classes. Stuart Thomas, PAC48, qualified in third place of the rapid Class 6 final in his 2000cc Vauxhall Nova, but had to retire from the race after only one lap. The Ladies and Juniors national championships took place at the same venue as the Men's nationals during September, where PAC was well represented, with all members who took part excelling themselves. All of the PAC Juniors achieved very good heat results and went on to compete in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and eventually the finals, with Dalton Jones, PAC480, Andrew Lewis, PAC17, Sam Davies, PAC12, Nathan Rees, PAC57, and Carl Blackmore, PAC67, all competing. Moving on to the PAC lady drivers, the club achieved great success, with nearly all drivers reaching their individual class finals. Michaela Bevans, PAC5, was the second highest points scorer after the three qualifying heats out of 57 Class 1 competitors, but had to retire prior to the final. Karen Large, PAC40, competed in Class 3 and achieved fourth place in the national finals. Hannah Thomas, PAC777, reached the Class 6 final, finishing in sixth place. Joan Bevans, of Cosheston, nearly took a double nationals award and was top points scorer in both Class 2 and Class 6 after the qualifying heats, but had to be content with winning Class 2 for the fifth time in her 1200cc Nissan Micra, crossing the finish line nearly half-a-lap ahead of the second place competitor. After swapping cars, Joan then went on to compete in her two-litre Vauxhall Nova Class 6 PAC53 and finished in a creditable second place. Moving on to the British Autograss Series (BAS) - five rounds were held across Britain, with PAC coming up trumps again and emerging with two British champions - Nathan Rees, PAC57, regaining his Junior British title for the second year running. He is only the second competitor in autograss history to win the British Junior Autograss title on two occasions. Out of the five rounds, Nathan achieved three firsts, a second and a third. The coming 2005 season will see Nathan moving out of the Junior section and moving up to compete with the men. Joan Bevans also took her second British title by winning the Class 2 BAS rounds, therefore beating every other competitor in Class 2 in the two major championships. Michaela Bevans, PAC5, finished in third place in the BAS Ladies Class 1. This was once again a great achievement for this 16-year-old in her first year of the Ladies Section of autograss racing. The PAC officials would like to extend their gratitude to each and every member of PAC for their hard work throughout the year, without which the club would be unable to operate as successfully as it does. This is also extended to all the visiting drivers and the spectators who came to the spectacular venue and race track at Lamphey during the 2004 season. The Lamphey race track is being altered slightly prior to the start of the 2005 season which starts on Sunday, March 27 (Easter Sunday). On June 25 and 26, the Pembroke Autograss Club will be proudly hosting the second round of the British Autograss Series, with each day's racing starting at 9 am when over 600 competitors will be competing. If anyone would like any details on how to become a member of PAC, either in a racing capacity or helping out (marshalling etc.), please contact the chairman, Graham Harries, on (01646) 651006, who would be pleased to hear from you. Autograss is the family motorsport, a great day out and suitable for everyone! Following the various speeches and toasts, the trophy presentations were then made as follows:
