The first meeting of the season for the Pembroke Autograss Club was held on Easter Sunday, and it was the club's best ever club race meeting. With nearly 170 drivers in the 16 classes, the driving skills, manoeuvres and close, exciting racing, meant that the meeting was a huge success. The track, as always, was in excellent condition, which the drivers always admire. As well as the large home entry of PAC cars, they were joined by drivers from the neighbouring South Wales League, along with entries from Southern Ireland (the West Waterford, Marlow and Cork clubs), as well as drivers from Radford, Atheston, Cambridge, Yorkshire Dales and Down from Northern Ireland. The landlord of the Pembroke Autograss Club studied all the PAC race cars and made a very difficult decision by judging the best turned out saloon and special cars. The awards, which are sponsored by Graham Harries and Raymond Rees, went to PAC 33, Mel Jones from Begelly, for the best saloon, and PAC 82, Robert Davies from Kidwelly, for best turned out special. All drivers competed in the two qualifying heats, with the top eight or 10 entering the grand finals, which produced spectacular racing. The Pembroke Autograss Club's second race meeting of the 2006 season will be held this Sunday at 12 noon. This will be the second qualifying round for this year's National Autograss Championships. The meeting will be held at their usual Lamphey racetrack, Lamphey, near Pembroke.
