Pembroke Castle will play host to its first ever 'Proms in the Castle' concert on Saturday, September 3, in association with South Hook LNG.
The 12th century fortress will form a stunning backdrop to the event which will see proceeds going to Pembrokeshire's Macmillan Cancer Support and Pembrokeshire Cancer Support.
The Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra will perform to an estimated crowd of 2,000 including classical favourites from Elgar, Offenbach and Tchaikovsky. And the evening will climax with a spectacular firework display. Local choirs, Neyland Ladies and Tempus will be supporting the event by performing between the orchestral rehearsal and main performance.
The event has been made possible because of the support of South Hook LNG who is sponsoring the evening.
Director and general manager of South Hook, Mohammed Al Naimi is delighted to be supporting the event.
"South Hook has an active community engagement programme that supports a variety of organisations across Pembrokeshire and through our involvement in this event, we're not only able to assist the valuable work of MacMillan and Pembrokeshire Cancer Support, but host our communities in an iconic local venue" he said.
It is hoped that the event will raise significant funds for local charities and Pembrokeshire Macmillan Cancer Support chairman, Phil Thompson said: "We are delighted to have the sponsorship from South Hook LNG, this help enables every pound of every ticket sold to go to charitable causes, an amazing outcome!"
It will be the first large scale event to take place at Pembroke Castle since the success of the royal wedding party.
Castle manager Jon Williams commented: "We are thrilled to be hosting this concert, it will fit perfectly with the castle and it helps us to again build on our reputation as one of the area's best event venues."
Tickets are now on sale from Pembroke Castle's shop by calling 01646 684585 and the cancer shop in Queen Street, Pembroke Dock. Tickets bought in advance are £10 and on the night will be £12.50 each.
Concertgoers can enter from 2 pm and enjoy an afternoon exploring the castle and listening to the rehearsal before the main event starts at 7 pm. Concertgoers are also encouraged to bring their own seats and picnics, and the castle café will be open throughout the event. There are a limited number of spaces available for those who wish to bring a gazebo. Therefore anybody wishing to bring their own gazebo will need to purchase 8 or more tickets and call the castle shop to book their space.
