There will be special celebrations tomorrow (Saturday) for Tenby minister, Rev. Nanette Lewis- Head, who is celebrating her 40th anniversary in the ministry. Mrs. Lewis-Head has been minister at St. Johns United Reformed and Methodist Church, as well as Ebenezer, Amroth, since 1998. A thanksgiving service for her 40 years in the Christian ministry, followed by a celebratory tea, will coincide with the date of Rev. Lewis-Head's ordination into the ministry, which took place at Lion Street Congregational Church, Blaenavon, on June 18, 1965. Born and brought up in Breconshire, Mrs. Lewis- Head was one of the first women in Wales to be trained in the ministry 40 years ago. Her first pastorate was in Blaenavon and after marrying her husband Brian, who was also a minister, the couple moved to Pembroke Dock, where Rev. Head had the pastoral care of Trinity Church. Three years later they moved to Banbury, before returning to Wales in 1977 and settling with their young family in Merthyr Tydfil. Following her husband's death in 1979, Mrs. Lewis- Head accepted a calling as minister at Hope and Market Square United Reformed Church, Merthyr Tydfil, together with Aberfan Presbyterian Church, where she spent 18 years. She moved to Tenby in 1998 and has been actively involved in the life of her two churches, as well as many community groups and organisations, ever since. A member of the South Pembs. Petty Sessional Division and chairman of the Youth Bench, Mrs. Lewis-Head is a governor at Greenhill School, Tenby, chaplain to Tenby Male Choir, a committee member of Tenby Museum and Art Gallery and a member of the new Tenby Cottage Hospital Local Implementation Group. Mrs. Lewis-Head has two sons, Simon and Lewis, and one granddaughter, Rosie Rebecca. FOOTNOTE: Next month, Rector of Tenby, Canon David Jenkins, will also be celebrating the 40th anniversary of his ordination. To mark the anniversary, a Celebration Parish Eucharist will be held on Sunday, July 24, at 10 am. The preacher and celebrant will be Most Rev. Barry Morgan, Bishop of Llandaff and Archbishop of Wales.
