It was a night of celebration last Thursday (August 15) at St Mary’s Church for Tenby Male Choir.

Attending the evening was the Choir President – Roy Noble OBE, who was greeted by the Chairman – David Blackmore, as he entered the church.

Members of the choir had been celebrating during the day the 85th birthday of Eric Mullins, who has been a member for 40 years and well known in the local community.

He belonged to the local police force and those that now ride the land train ‘Rosalind’ in Saundersfoot will instantly recognise his voice as the commentary is relayed during their journey.

Eric with his rich bass voice was given the honour of singing solo during the choir’s first break. He delighted the audience with songs from the musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ - Sunrise, Sunset and the great favourite - If I was a Rich Man. He received a standing ovation.

Tenby Male Choir sang their usually songs and asked the audience to join in with ‘Climb Every Mountain’ from the musical The Sound of Music but really appreciated the fun and games with my Grandfather’s Clock in the second section along with the tribute to those who worked in the mining industry with A Working Man.

The second solo spot was taken by Paul Varallo who sang ‘Tell My Father’ from the musical about the American Civil War and ‘Stars’ from the musical Les Miserables. Generous donations were received from the audience with regards Cancer Research which Paul is raising money for by running the Cardiff Half Marathon in October.

In the final section the choir sang the anthem adopted by the Wales Air Ambulance – Anfonaf Angel and finished the special night with An American Trilogy – having a former member of the choir joining them and Doctor John Harrison playing the organ.

It was indeed a special night for Tenby Male Choir.
