At the Lovespoon workshop, based at Cold Inn, Kilgetty, one special spoon is made each year which records all sorts of events, some national and some personal.

“At the beginning of the year, we focused on the number 5 because it was 2015,” said Kerry Thomas, who runs the workshop.

“This proved to be a very significant number for many anniversaries. World War II ended in 1945, while in 1865 the Mimosa set sail for Patagonia and on arrival set up a Welsh colony which still exists today.

“The Salvation Army was founded in the same year. It was the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carter. Easter Sunday fell on April 5 and we used this opportunity in our local church to have a family service which included an easter egg hunt,” he continued.

“On a personal note, our own business opened in 1975 and we have been trading for 40 years, while our third grandson was born on February 15.”

Also recorded were quite a few milestones in the music world, too, with Tom Jones turning 75 this year, 100 years since the birth of Frank Sinatra, and of course the king himself, Elvis Presley, was born in 1935.

“On December 15 there was a lot of excitement as Tim Peake went into space. On Christmas Day, during the Queen’s speech, we also heard that there were 500 lights on the Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square,” added Kerry.

There are other events that have been recorded on the spoon and it is on display in The Lovespoon workshop.
