The recent South Pembrokeshire Hunt Week proved another success. The week getting off to a great start with a meet at Shipping Hill, Norchard, on Monday, November 22 ,very generously hosted by Philip and Jan Mathias, on what turned out to be a lovely day. The fun continued into the evening with the annual trivia charity quiz at Swallow Tree Gardens, Saundersfoot. A total of 23 teams took part, in a packed room with a wonderful atmosphere. Former Saundersfoot postmaster, Ian Nicholls acted as question master, and Newman Vincent kept track of the scoring. Winners of the Hancock Trophy again this year were the 'No Hopers',with team captain David Llewellyn, delighted to scoop the £100 prize. The first performance of the ever-popular Variety Show at the RAOB Club, Kilgetty, took place on Tuesday and was attended by a large enthusiastic audience. Wednesday heralded the hunt supporters meet at Trevayne Farm, with the day hosted by the Hunt Week committee and enjoyed by some 30 riders, with soup and refreshments following. The Merlewood Hotel, Saundersfoot, was the venue in the evening for a successful video racing night. The second performance of the Variety Show was staged on Thursday to another supportive audience, while Friday saw a well deserved break from the festivities. An impressive turnout of both riders and hunt supporters attended Saturday's meet at East Tarr Farm, hosted by Heather Williams. For a record fourth time, the Howells Trophy for best turned out junior combination was won by Jane Elliott, of Tedion Farm, Lawrenny, on her pony 'Max'. The undoubted highlight of the week, however, was the Hunt Ball, held at Tenby's Kiln Park. The evening proved to be a huge success, with 500 guests enjoying a delicious meal prepared by Mrs. Judy Lewis and her wonderful team of helpers. Among the guests that attended the ball were Glamorgan and England cricketer Robert Croft, Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Conservative candidate David Morris, county NFU chairman Stephen James, and chief executive of countryside alliance, Simon Hart. "It was a wonderful week and a big thanks goes to everyone for their tremendous support and enthusiasm throughout the week," said Hunt Week chairman, Mr. Dennis Reed.
