LADIES' SECTION

GUW Monthly Medals: On Sunday, October 2, the first medal of the month was held, which was won by Mary Mountney with a nett 73. She was the only entrant in the competition. Pam Milliner, who was marking her card, had a nett 76, but unfortunately hadn't entered the medal for some reason. Make sure you do next time, Pam, you're ready for a drop in handicap!

Mary Mountney was successful again when she won the Wednesday medal on nett 79, with Mary Lewis coming second with nett 82. Well done Mary!

Past Lady Captains Salver: On Friday, October 7, most of the present and past lady captains got together to play for the annual Past Lady Captains Salver, kindly donated by Mrs. Renee Rogers back in 1977. It was a very damp and blustery day, so the lady captain decided it would be played over 14 holes instead of the usual 18 (Is she finally joining the fair-weather golfers' society?). I think this decision was welcomed by almost all of the ladies!

The winner was Ros Williams with 25 pts, followed by Ria Phillips in second place with 18.

The day was rounded off with a chat and a tasty lunch at the club's Fairways Restaurant.

Pat Kilvington Trophy: Last Wednesday, the ladies combined play with the Seniors section in the annual Pat Kilvington Competition, for which there is a handsome trophy, donated some years ago by the late Pat Kilvington, who together with his wife and previous caterer Kate, were staunch South Pembs. members for many years.

The format was a mixed stableford. It was well supported by both sides and we had 14 teams out on the day. They all seemed to have a great time and, after the match, enjoyed another lovely meal served up by caterer Janet.

Thanks must go to Peter Bowling and the Seniors section for accommodating the ladies - we know they have a very hectic golfing schedule!

Winners were: Ann Williams and Keith Leverton with 36 pts; 2. Sara Davies and Chris Clarkson with 34; and 3. Lynne Rees and Brian Williams on 33.
