It has been a difficult few weeks for golfers. The weather hasn't been kind. However, the greens staff have worked very hard and kept the course open and we are now seeing more golfers out on the fairways.

Last weekend, 34 players took part in the Winter League. There have been some excellent individual performances.

January 10: Jan Robbie O'Rourke 42, Mike Swain 36, David Alderman 35.

January 18: Robbie O'Rourke 39, Antony Watkins 39, Robbie O'Rourke 39.

February 7: Michael Rees 38, Steve Elliot 37, Peter Johnson 36.

Up-to-date overall situation for the league and league positions: Robbie O'Rourke 347, Anthony Watkins 327, Peter Johnson 324.

Eclectic best gross: Mike Barret, Mark Evans and Anthony Watkins all have a gross score of 62.

Juniors

In April, SPGC play host to a regional part of the HSBC sponsored Wee Wonders competition, which is for golfers between the ages of five and 12.

The club continues to grow its base of junior members and we hope that they all do well in this event.

NEW CATERER

We would like to welcome Jan Norrie as our new caterer. Jan has already received a great deal of praise for her food and her friendly manner from those who have attended some of the functions held at the club.

She will be catering for our Valentine's Day evening this week and is planning to provide lunch on St. David's Day and special deals are available for meals during the televised rugby matches.

Back on the course, we play host to those clubs in the Winter Alliance on February 26.

Sheets will be going up shortly for summer cups, which will start after Easter.
