The club held its annual general meeting last week and, as is traditional, spent some time looking back, but mostly looking forward to the new year.

Looking back, Alan Jones was finally presented with a fine trophy for his win in the Dyfed Championship. Vernon's almost last job at the end of a unique two-year stint was to present the trophy in front of the Christmas tree. Keen-eyed readers will also spot Vernon's own photo above the tree.

The club also had a golf day to thank all of those kind sponsors who had help the club in Open Week. They thanked them by taking them out onto the golf course in the wind and soaking rain. Fortunately, they also had an enjoyable social occasion and some refreshments. The club is very grateful for their help and looks forward to an equally good relationship next year.

Apart from Vernon, the club thanks those whose service to the club comes to an end. Bob Gale, who has worked tirelessly as match and handicap chairman, leaves his post for a well-deserved rest. Fortunately, there are some new faces as well (while some are very old new faces!). Steve Evans and his son Mark are now captain and vice-captain. Carole Chichester is now Ladies' captain and Fred Mountney takes over as Seniors captain. Fred carries on as a director of the club, along with Mike Williams and Harold James.

Fred delivered an upbeat treasurer's report at the AGM, which was good to hear in these days of Credit Crunch and doom and gloom.

The members were also keen to praise Mick Seal, not only for his first year as club secretary, but also for his work alongside Steve House with the juniors. The club's big success this year has been the growth in the number of juniors from nine to 65. Alan Jones has also played a big part in that success.

A good example of Mick's innovative approach was to be seen at the AGM when he announced an apology for absence from Mr. Davies, thereby covering about 20 people all in one fell swoop.

On the course, the club's Winter League continues.

The Seniors, who also held their AGM last week, had two winners in their Autumn Eclectic - Brian Phillips won the under 19 handicap section and Frank O'Sullivan won the 19 and over section.

Kevin Dewhurst had a fine win in the Autumn Cup.

At the AGM, Clive Pitten relinquished his responsibility for golf as Seniors captain and took over responsibility for the money from Gerry Keys. Mike Leighs becomes Seniors' secretary.
