Dyfed Championship
Alan Jones was declared Dyfed champion at the end of Sunday's 36-hole competition at South Pembs. This was a repeat of his 2007 victory. In second place was Daniel Farmer from Haverfordwest. Both had net scores of 146. Alan had a gross score for the two rounds of 144. Several members kindly gave their time to assist in the running of the competition, while greens staff, bar staff and others made a special effort with this prestigious event. All were both annoyed and saddened to see that vandals chose this day to steal two flags.
Ladies Report
Friday, June 6: We held our annual strawberry tea, by kind invitation of Janet and Phil Tallett, in their lovely garden. The weather was beautiful and with excellent scones and cakes provided by the ladies, along with a raffle and book stall, £217 was raised. Wednesday, June 11: Carole Blackwell held her Captains Day. Twenty-one ladies played in threes in a stableford competition. Again the weather was kind and the rain held off until all had completed their rounds. Ann Williams won first prize in the first division with 35 points, while Jane Parsons was second with 34. In the second division, Ria Phillips came first with 34 points, beating Ann Rees into second place on the back nine holes. Ann also had 34 points. Four senior ladies played a putting competition, were they showed their skills had not diminished despite their advancing years. Elwyna Jones came first. Several single putts were achieved by Elwyna, Rene Rogers and Ray Prout. The day was rounded off by a group photo and an excellent buffet meal provided by Kate Kilvington. The prizes of handmade ceramic vases and bowls were presented to the worthy winners. A good time was had by all.
Seniors Report
The Summer League continued last week and the results seem to get better and better. Peter Daniels, Kevin Dewhurst and Brian Phillips scored 40, 39 and 38 points, respectively, in division one. In division two, Gerry Keys, Hugh Treloar and Ken Chichester scored 39, 38 and 37 points. They are all seeing their handicaps coming down after several good performances. On Thursday, the Seniors reversed their away defeat at Trefloyne with a 7.5 to 2.5 victory at South Pembs. There were four halved matches confirming that the competition was closer than the final score suggests.
