The club was delighted to play its part in the helicopter tour with the Ryder Cup Trophy. Many members can now proudly claim to have held one of the most prestigious trophies in world sport. Some money was raised for the cancer charity Tenovus. Well done to them for organising the tour. Well done to the ladies' section for the way they provided hospitality on behalf of the club. It would be nice to think that we have provided some good luck to the European team for their match at Celtic Manor.

Ladies' Section
Recently, South Pembs. Ladies played their league match at Newport, enjoying the beautiful views from their new nine holes. The new clubhouse facilities were excellent. South Pembs. came away with a 3/2 win. On Wednesday, May 21, the qualifying round for the Australian Spoons Stableford competition was played. The strong easterly winds on a sunny day made shot selection critical. The worthy winners for the foursomes format were Mary Mountney and Ria Phillips with 37 points. They go forward to play the next round at Brecon. Runners-up were Tricia Williamson and Sue Harris with 29 points. Wednesday, May 28, saw the competition for the Cancer Salver postponed until Wednesday, June 18, due to the wet and windy weather. On Thursday, May 29, members were pleased to share the excitement of the arrival, by helicopter, of the Ryder Cup. Many members were privileged to have their photographs taken holding the famous gold cup. The ladies were able to provide refreshments for the pilots and officials before they went on their way to visit other clubs in Wales. They were also able to donate to the official charity Tenovus. Friday, May 30, saw the ladies team played against Milford on a beautiful sunny day on their course which was very enjoyable. They came away with a 3/2 win. Congratulations ladies. The team members were Tricia Williamson, Sara Davies, Ros Williams, Mary Lewis, Novello Davies, Mary Mountney, Ann Williams, Sharon Kaye, Geraldine Alderman and Ria Phillips. On Wednesday, June 4, there was a good turnout for the monthly LGU medal round. There were some good scores despite the breezy conditions and luckily the rain held off. Ria Phillips came first with a nett 72. Sara Davies was second with 73.
Seniors' section
Summer League: On May 20, there were some excellent high scores in both divisions Brian Phillips keeps seeing his handicap being reduced after scoring 38 points. Fred Mountney was close behind with 37. Vince Simes scored 34. Ray Williams also continues his good form and won the second division with 36points. On May 27, Brian and Fred again had good scores but were beaten by Hugh Treloar with an excellent 40 points. In the Second Division, Gerry Keys also had 40 points and was followed by Peter Bowling and Frank O'Sullivan. Peter's score was particularly noteworthy after his recent operation. The team were easily beaten by Trefloyne at Trefloyne. However, we have an early opportunity for revenge at South Pembs.
Forthcoming events
Work is still going on to make the Open Week a success. A raffle will be held with an exciting prize of a trip to Ireland. On June 21, the Seniors' are holding an Open Day with three age categories. Up to 55, 55 to 69 and 70 and over On June 23, the Seniors' Classic team travel to Pontypridd in the Bowl competition.
