This month, the South Pembrokeshire Hunt Branch of the Pony Club sent a smaller than normal team to compete in the area triathlon due to illness and injuries.
This was the last of the winter series and was once again held in Newcastle Emlyn, although fortunately this month the weather was a little kinder to the competitors than it has been over past months.
Competing in the Senior Girls Section was Alice Simon. Once again, Alice recorded good scores in the shoot, swim and run to come fifth overall and fifth in the series which was a very promising result in her first season in seniors.
Bea Meyrick and Harriet Morgan were competing in the Junior Girls competition. Both girls recorded some good scores with Bea coming sixth, and while Harriet finished just out of the rosettes in seventh, she came an excellent fourth overall in the series.
Lucy Davies and Nicole Elsdon were the only girls this month in the Minimus Girls event. Nicole once again won the run and came first overall. Whilst Lucy improved on her promising start to triathlons last month with an excellent shoot, swim and run to put her in a very well deserved third place overall. Lucy who is only eight-years-old was the youngest competitor in the competition and therefore this was an incredible achievement when she is competing against girls up to four years older than her.
This month, Lorcan Williams joined Charlie Andrews, Jack Goldsworthy Spuffard and Fred Meyrick to make up the minimus boys team. Jack continued his winning ways with a first in the swim and run although this month he was beaten in the shoot by Fred who won the shooting. Meanwhile, overall it was almost a clean sweep for South Pembs. with Jack first, Fred third, Charlie fourth and Lorcan sixth. Well done boys!
Congratulations to Jack and Nicole who convincingly won the overall minimus boys and girls series respectively. The pair also both won all three area triathlons and were awarded prizes for their achievements.
The competitors are now busy training for the tetrathlons which start soon where competitors take part in either a show jumping or a cross country riding phase along with the shooting, swimming and running.
In preparation for this, Alice Simon, Cethin Ravenhill and Jack Goldsworthy Spuffard, along with Anna and Emma Morgan, all recently travelled down to Stockland Lovell along with their ponies and other riders from Area 18 to take part in cross country training in preparation for the tetrathlon competitions.
