Once again a keen group of competitors from the South Pembrokeshire Hunt branch of the Pony Club have been away competing in a Tetrathlon competition. The Area Tetrathlon was scheduled to take place the first weekend in April, with the swimming, shooting and running on the Saturday, and the riding on the Sunday. Saturday went ahead as scheduled, but on the Sunday the organisers were forced to abandon the cross country due to snow! As a result, the riding phase was reorganised and took place on Sunday, April 20, instead! Due to injuries, Emily Pellington was the only South Pembs competitor in the Novice Girls competition. Emily came first in the swim and third overall, and first in the team competition. Similarly, due to injuries and broken bones, Abigail Meyrick was the only competitor from South Pembs in the Minimus Girls. Despite this, she did extremely well to go clear in the riding. Competing in the Junior Girls were Alice Simon, Cethin Ravenhill, Taryn Williams, Bea Bea Meyrick, Harriet Morgan and Isabel Meyrick. All the girls did well, with Alice and Taryn both going clear in the riding. Bea was unlucky to narrowly miss out on the rosettes, coming seventh overall, while Alice came third overall. The South Pembs Junior Girls Team also did extremely well overall to come first in the team competition. Jack Goldsworthy Spuffard, Fred Meyrick and Lorcan Williams were competing in the Minimus Boys Team who came sixth overall. Individually Jack won the shoot and the run and came fourth overall. Whilst Fred was unlucky to just miss out on the rosettes, coming seventh overall. Meanwhile, eight-year-old Lorcan Williams, who was the youngest competitor in the competition, did superbly to come fifth overall. Well done Lorcan! The branch are holding their annual Pony Club Show on Saturday, May 17, at Bangeston, just off the A477 before Pembroke Dock. Classes are open to riders of all ages and include showing, working hunters, show jumping and novice classes. This year the show is also a qualifier for the SWPA Championships. Schedules are available at local Tack Shops or by calling Dawn Harries on 01646 651320.
